Questo tasso di utilizzo delle risorse \u00e8 palesemente insostenibile e l&#8217;estrazione, la lavorazione e lo smaltimento delle risorse naturali possono avere un pesante impatto ambientale.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Le nostre attivit\u00e0 commerciali si basano su risorse preziose, per questo teniamo fede alle nostre responsabilit\u00e0 migliorando i processi e i prodotti in modo da utilizzarle sempre meno e adottando un approccio circolare ogni volta che ci \u00e8 possibile, ad esempio attraverso la gestione e lo smaltimento responsabile dei rifiuti e un uso delle risorse che sia rispettoso dell\u2019ambiente. Tale quantit\u00e0 dipende strettamente dai volumi annui di metalli primari a cui accediamo, che possono fluttuare a seconda della volatilit\u00e0 dei prezzi e dell'andamento del mercato. I nostri rifiuti non pericolosi, invece, provengono principalmente dalle operazioni quotidiane e dai materiali di imballaggio che accompagnano i nostri prodotti e includono materiali come PET, legno, rifiuti ferrosi e rifiuti generici.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Svizzera<\/strong>, seguiamo le normative del Dipartimento federale dell&#8217;ambiente, dei trasporti, dell&#8217;energia e delle comunicazioni (DATEC), mentre a <strong>Hong Kong<\/strong> seguiamo le linee guida del Dipartimento per la protezione ambientale (EPD). Nel 2023 abbiamo iniziato a definire obiettivi chiari e misurabili per diminuire il consumo e abbiamo lanciato un progetto pilota prefissandoci di ridurlo del 10% nel 2024, a Mendrisio, rispetto al 2023.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Nel 2024 abbiamo ridotto il prelievo complessivo del 14% rispetto all&#8217;anno precedente. Grazie al rafforzamento del monitoraggio e dell&#8217;attenzione, <strong>Mendrisio<\/strong> ha registrato un calo del 24%, mentre <strong>Hong Kong<\/strong> ha visto un aumento dell&#8217;8%, dopo due anni di calo, principalmente a causa dell\u2019incremento produttivo dei materiali L\u2019obiettivo finale \u00e8 il ripristino del 100% della superficie degradata e i primi interventi in loco sono gi\u00e0 stati effettuati all&#8217;inizio del 2025.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;iniziativa risponde all&#8217;obiettivo del Global Biodiversity Framework e segue un approccio scientifico. Per prima cosa abbiamo analizzato il punteggio relativo all\u2019uso del suolo sotto il profilo dell&#8217;abbondanza media di specie (MSA), mettendolo a confronto con gli ecosistemi indisturbati. Le misure previste puntano a migliorare tale punteggio a favore della biodiversit\u00e0. Il nuovo progetto \u00e8 nato con l&#8217;obiettivo di raggiungere i massimi tassi di recupero riducendo al contempo l&#8217;impatto ambientale e i costi operativi. Il nuovo sistema consente un recupero del platino ancora pi\u00f9 efficiente e affidabile, riducendo al minimo l\u2019uso di sostanze chimiche e contribuendo anche a una minore impronta di CO\u2082. Nel 2023 abbiamo raddoppiato la capacit\u00e0 arrivando a produrre fino a 450 tonnellate di nitrato di sodio all\u2019anno. Questa trasformazione non solo riduce significativamente la quantit\u00e0 di rifiuti, ma rende anche riutilizzabile questa preziosa materia prima nelle industrie del cemento e del vetro. Il nostro obiettivo era di ridurre il contenuto di nitrato dell\u201985% entro la fine del 2024, rispetto al 2019, ma a causa di alcune difficolt\u00e0 tecniche siamo arrivati solo al 50%. Dal canto nostro, adottiamo tutte le misure possibili per soddisfare o superare tali standard nel rifornirci di metalli preziosi, ad esempio effettuando valutazioni in loco sull&#8217;intero portfolio minerario, sia tramite il nostro personale che appoggiandoci a societ\u00e0 esterne.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>La nostra iniziativa prevede la raccolta di dati specifici per ogni miniera in diversi ambiti di sostenibilit\u00e0 e lo sviluppo di un modello per il confronto di tali dati. Ci concentriamo sulla trasparenza delle informazioni e degli obiettivi relativi alle emissioni di gas serra, all&#8217;acqua e alla biodiversit\u00e0, poich\u00e9 vogliamo che il 100% dei nostri partner minerari adotti obiettivi e misure monitorandone i progressi e il raggiungimento.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In tale contesto, con il supporto di Innosuisse (l&#8217;Agenzia svizzera per la promozione dell&#8217;innovazione), abbiamo avviato un progetto congiunto con l\u2019Universit\u00e0 di scienze applicate di Zurigo (ZHAW) per monitorare e identificare potenziali azioni volte a ridurre l&#8217;impatto delle attivit\u00e0 minerarie. Il progetto mira a implementare metodi basati sui dati offrendo una nuova sinergia di tecnologie e competenze tese ad affrontare tale sfida persistente, accanto ad altri parametri.
